Historic
Fort William Henry, Lake George, NY
Fort
William Henry was a British fort on the shores of Lake George, New York. It was
built during the French and Indian War (1754-1763) and used as a staging ground
for attacks against the French. The fort was named Fort William Henry after the
King's grandson Prince William Henry, a younger brother of the later King George
III. On September 8, 1755 the Battle of Lake George was fought between the forces
of Britain and France. Its replica is now a popular tourist attraction.
